Temporal Facadism - Material Acts
The following project is based on research undertaken in Brick Lane, a renowned London street. Brick Lane and the surrounding neighbourhood have long been subject to gentrification. In 2020, there has been controversy over a planning application granted for the transformation of the street’s industrial buildings, proposing to convert some of these into shopping malls, gyms, and offices. The following project is a critique of what is considered heritage in Brick Lane. The industrial building’s facades are grade II listed, yet the interior of these buildings and the population these host is disregarded. The following project is a critique of facadism and the current transformation of Brick Lane.
