The following group project is the concept design and implementation of a 'meanwhile' community garden at the back of the British Library, London. The garden makes use of precious vacant city space awaiting development. The 'meanwhile' nature of the project means building low-cost and time efficient make shift infrastructures of an ephemeral nature.
Understanding the local communities wants and needs.
The 'Make Camden' event was an invitation for the local community (garden users) to share their thoughts, wants and needs. Interactive mapping exercises and collage resources were supplied as a means of communication. Students of local schools took part in artist organised workshops, serving as inspiration for the garden's possible uses.
Communicating the garden concept to the council.
As a response to the knowledge attained during the community consultation, we designed a conceptual master plan of what the garden could become. The master plan was later presented to Camden Council.
The 'Story Garden' is coming to life.
The plans for the community garden have come to life. Global Generation have coordinated the funding and organisation of the garden. The Story Garden is a work in progress, made possible through the engagement of local community and Central Saint Martin students.
